Commissioned on 20 December 1986, Colonel Chaand Saroha commanded First Battalion of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles in the counter insurgency area of Jammu & Kashmir. In addition, he was Commandant at Indian Battalion in United Nation Mission in Congo (Africa), and Group Commander, Special Action Training Group in National Security Guards (NSG), Manesar, Haryana.
